My Top 40 Songs Of All Time!!!

Happy Birthday to me. 40 today. Cue the mid life crisis. But during the lead up to my 40th I have become quite reflective. I have had a few blogs looking back on my favourite things, but this is the ultimate - my 40 favourite songs of all time.

Single of the Week: Jennifer Hudson - I Sill Love You

I always get a little angry that Jennifer Hudson has not had the career she deserves. Eliminated from American Idol way too early, I remember being so shocked. Then she may have won an Oscar, but has succumbed to the Best Supporting Actress curse of not going on to better acting jobs. And while her music career is filled with stunning tunes, she hasn't had the massive hits she deserves.

Top 5 Songs: Toni Braxton

Toni Braxton is one of those 90s/00s R&B/pop artists that I look back on with such affection. While she may not have had the massive discography of some of the artists I feature on the Top 5 lists, I love so many of her songs that I felt compelled to compile a Toni Braxton Top 5 list.

Single of the Week: Bitch, I'm Madonna - Madonna

Single number three from the brilliant "Rebel Heart" album and it's a divisive one. This loud, brash and arrogant song hasn't pleased some, but for me, it's just how I love my Madonna - iconic!

Album Review: Deja Vu - Giorgio Moroder

Originally named, "74 is the new 24", and changed to the more youth favourable, "Deja Vu", the new Giorgio Moroder album is a slice of pure pop with some major guest singers. This is a slickly produced and wonderful album that will be on heavy rotation for me this year.

Top 5 Songs: George Michael

Top 5 songs list time, and this week it's a big one. The man who is quite possibly my favourite male singer. The one, the only, Mr George Michael. A man who has made amazing music for decades and has left songs that are still as good as when they were first released.

Dear Spotify Study - Screw You!

In exactly 13 days I will turn 40, and besides my usual blogs I've been doing some reflective blogs about my favourite music. Well today I wanted to write an angry blog, because at 40 I must be an angry old man. There was a study released recently, a few months ago, but the old man is late with these things; the study used Spotify data to conclude that people over the age of 33 just don't listen to new music anymore. Well, fuck you study!

Single of the Week: Fire Under My Feet - Leona Lewis

I have been a big fan of Leona Lewis since the very first time I heard the sublime, "Bleeding Love". So I was pretty excited to hear she had new music coming out, and I was not disappointed when I heard her new single, Fire Under My Feet", I was actually pretty damn excited - this song is amazing!

Top 5 Songs: Dannii Minogue

Time for some REAL pop. Some may know her only as Kylie's little sister, but she is an amazing singer in her own right. Confession time, I have often thought that I actually prefer Dannii's music to Kylie's! That may shock many people.

Songs Are Memories

Songs are memories. When I first came up with "Internal Jukebox" as an impro show, it was the main theme and is something I believe. A good song can provoke a memory, a moment in time that when you hear it, it brings back that feeling - good, bad, both!

Single of the Week: Want To Want Me - Jason Derulo

Now I know this song is a little old but this past weekend I just haven't been able to get it out of my head. Every time I reached for my iPod, I just had to play this song and the chorus has been rattling around in my brain - so I just had to make it my single of the week.

Top 5 Songs - Dixie Chicks

I love pop music, this is essentially a pop music blog - but I also love so many different types of music. Country is a genre I also really love; I've often mentioned on this blog my absolute love for Kasey Chambers; and my highest read blog was my review of Beccy Cole's fab autobiography. Though when it comes to non Australian country music, my absolute favourite has been, and will always be, Dixie Chicks.

Single of the Week: All Cried Out - Blonde featuring Alex Newell

Alex Newell has an amazing voice, absolutely amazing. Paired with the epic dance beats of UK deep house beat producers, Blonde; "All Cried Out" is a song that truly deserves to be a hit here in Australia, and right across the world.
