Single of the Week: Drag Me Down - One Direction

The boys are back, well momentarily anyway. After their announcement this week of an upcoming 2016 hiatus, it seems a fitting time to celebrate the brilliance that is their new single, the UK and Aussie number one, "Drag Me Down".

I'd been waiting for the guys to release a clip for the song before I made them the single of the week, and since we got an awesome clip this week, here they are taking home the title this week!

I guess the thing we all wondered when we heard the lads had a new song, was how would they sound without Zayn? He had always been such an important part of the group and their sound mix. The great news is that this song sounds wonderful and he really isn't missed. Sure, we'd still love him there, but the guys are doing just fine without him.

This is a great song, starting with that simple but rich bass line, it builds to some perfect pop. The beat is constant and infectious, and the clap track makes you want to join in. The boy's sound has been evolving and they are no longer the kids making "What Makes You Beautiful". This is an adult and accomplished sound, and we, the listener, are better for it.

Harry sounds great, as always, but the big surprise here is Louis. He has picked up where Zayn left off and his voice is bigger and better than ever. Harmonises, as usual, are spot on. I am excited for their new album, but am scared this may be the last one we hear from them. So cherish it folks, it could be it.

It is great to see a vocal group grow and evolve, and that's what we get with the new 1D track - a pop evolution with a catchy track that makes me sing along very loudly!
