There is something magical about the work of Ms Jessica Mauboy, she continues to deliver solid song after song, and in preparation for her fourth album, she has again released a corker of a track, the brilliant, "This Ain't Love" - a song that had to be our single of the week.
Jessica Mauboy is an amazing talent, her discography is filled with amazing tunes, with everything from to "Running Back To You", "Been Waiting" and "Pop a Bottle", she knows how to belt out an awesome tune. So it's exciting to see that with the release of a new single that's she experimenting with her sound. Introducing drum and bass to her arsenal is a stroke of genius.
"This Ain't Love" is an explosive song, the beat is full on and infectious - you can't help but groove along. It's a very international sound, I can certainly see them loving this song in the UK. It's easy to draw comparisons with other songs, and this isn't a bad thing, it shows the relevancy of the sound. I could certainly hear elements of the brilliant Ella Eyre in the track, and the retro sound is in, and I can even hear a little of A-Ha's classic, "Take On Me" in there.
The highlight of any Jess Mauboy song is undoubtedly her voice, and she sounds truly great hear. She builds the song brilliantly and demands you listen to her awe inspiring vocals. The lyrics are great and Jess delivers them so passionately.
I was worried this song was going to flop, it hit 41 and seemed to drop out of the charts, but this past week re-entered at 8, giving Jess another Top Ten smash. Phew! This is a good song that deserves attention. Catchy and current, "This Ain't Love" is another example of why Jessica Mauboy is the reigning Queen of Australian pop.
