Officially the sixth single from Nicki Minaj's brilliant rap opus, "The Pinkprint". "The Night Is Still Young" is the most fun song on the album, and one I have struggled to get out of my internal jukebox over the past month.
Nicki Minaj's pop songs have always been contentious and controversial, some see her tracks like "Starships" and "Pound the Alarm" as soft and takes away from her rap work. I personally love them. Here, Minaj has done something different, there's an elegance to this track and it sounds incredibly polished - a lot more than "Pound the Alarm" ever did. This not plastic pop, but more sophisticated.
This is a catchy party tune, a dance anthem that will make you want to throw your hands in the air and dance. Minaj perfectly matches rap in the verses with vocals on the chorus, and when I hear it, I can't get the chorus vocals, "The night is still young and so are we", out of my head for hours.
Dr Luke has done a fantastic job with production and the wonderful thing about any Nicki Minaj song, you know it's her - her vocals are so very distinctive. The beat is brilliant and it may be the most radio friendly of all the songs on the album.
An ode to the night, it is a damn good pop song and proves that Nicki Minaj still has so much to offer, and can make such different songs. "The Pinkprint" has had such unique songs and I am so glad this thumper was released as a single. If you haven't heard it yet, play the video loud, and enjoy it! Now come on Nicki, tour Australia!
