Singles: The Best Singles of March 2016

As we come to the end of yet another month (time really does fly as you get older!), it's time to look back at the best singles of March 2016. It has been an amazing month for music, and there's so many other songs I love - but these six really stuck out. Tell me in the comments section below which one you liked most, or vote on our Twitter page.

Basically Over You (B.O.Y) - Alex Newell

The second class of "Glee", the one that wasn't as popular, sure has produced some amazing talent. Melissa Benoist is "Supergirl", Jacob Artist is great on "Quantico" and let's face it, Alex Newell is the best recording artist from the show. His tune with Blonde last year, "All Cried Out" was in my top ten tracks of last year; and there's a good chance that the amazing "Basically Over You" could do the same this year. This song is perfect, a disco inspired kiss off to an ex-boyfriend who may have dumped him but now wants him back. Bonus points for a great film clip starring the very sexy winner of America's Next Model, Nyle DiMarco. This pop anthem is an instant classic, well done Alex, you are a gem!

Cake By the Ocean - DNCE

Now this song may have a bit of age to it, but it just getting attention here in Australia and it is this past month where I have gone crazy for this very funky song. DNCE features the very talented Joe Jonas (his single from a few years back, "See No More" is still a favourite). This song is so infectious, I challenge you to listen to this a few times and not have the chorus stuck in your head. While the title may be more than a little strange, the song is exceptional and just the right level of naughty. It just makes me want to dance. With this single, and their duet with Hailee Steinfeld, the great "Rock Bottom", DNCE is a band to watch out for.

Who Am I - Katy B featuring Craig David & Major Lazer

I have been a big Katy B fan since the beginning, there is such a cool ease to her music that I adore, plus the return of Craig David this year has been great (if you didn't love his original work you have no taste!). Together, they have created an amazing duet with the help of Major Lazer. Their voices meld so well together and the driving beat in this mid tempo tune is inspiring. Katy has a brilliant voice and she gets to flex her muscles here. She has never been that big here in Australia, let's hope that can all change with her upcoming new album.

Piece By Piece - Kelly Clarkson

Now "Piece by Piece" certainly is not a new song, the album of the same name came out this time last year, and this song, the third single from the album, came out last year to little fanfare. However, when Kelly returned home to the final season of American Idol and did one of the best live television performances of all time (how could you ever forget the genuine tears of Keith Urban as she sang), this song has gained the attention it deserves. Almost a sequel to "Because of You", Kelly wrote this song about her absent father while pregnant with her first child. On the surface this tune may seem like a tragic tale, but really it is a tale of hope, While she had a flawed relationship with a man who only wanted her after she was famous, she knows her husband will always be there for her daughter. It is impassioned, beautiful and flawless. Kelly can belt out a tune and here she is spectacular.

Desire - Years & Years featuring Tove Lo

Now this is another old tune given a new life, I got the original at the end of 2014; but after the success of their amazing debut album, Years & Years have re-released this amazing single and added Tove Lo to the mix. Tove Lo is doing some great duets at the moment, she was brilliant on Adam Lambert's last album, and her new tune with Nick Jonas is great. "Desire" is classic Years & Years, an intelligent beat and great lyrics over Olly Alexander's amazing vocals, by adding Tove Lo, the song has been elevated even more. I am in love with this track all over again and have been playing it non-stop. Can't wait to see Years & Years when they hit Australia later this year with Ellie Goulding.

Work From Home - Fifth Harmony featuring Ty Dolla $ign)

Fifth Harmony really did sneak up on us. The former X-Factor USA contestants seemed to be doing okay, not really standing out. Then came "Sledgehammer", a brilliant pop tune and we started taking notice, then they released, "Worth It" and they were massive - and rightly so. So it was going to be intriguing to see what they would do with their sophomore album, first single, "Work From Home", shows us the second album is going to be amazing. This such a funky song, a great pop song with a brilliant R&B heart. The girls sound amazing together and the chorus is just so catchy. Bring on the album!
