Album Review: Wings of the Wild - Delta Goodrem

It must be increasingly frustrating for those people who love to bag out Delta. She continues to have big success, her new album, "Wings of the Wild", currently sits atop the Australian album charts. Here's something else for you haters, Delta's album is a truly great pop album, so sit down, we don't want to hear your shit anymore!

The new album has been a long time coming, promo single, "Only Human" came out well over a year ago, and "Wings" was one of my favourite tunes of last year. Delta's certainly had time to work on this album, and the result is stunning. Delta is certainly back in fine form, with the album containing all great tracks. And it's so impressive to see her name appear on writing credits for all songs, except the quirky and brilliant orchestral cover of "I Believe in a Thing Called Love".

The piano, Delta's weapon of choice, also features heavily on the album and her voice, as always, is given the perfect vehicle to shine. I also love that Delta is experimenting with the tempo of her voice, her speedy delivery on a number of songs is exceptional and brings a freshness to the work. For an artist on her fifth album, she is still sounding original and distinctive.

Promo single, "Only Human", sits well on the album, a challenge to her critics and a statement that Delta is not done. The song is emotive, simple and beautiful. Even after a year, "Wings", is still an infectious tune that deserved the recognition it received. And as she sings, "What if I lose my self control?", I'm still feeling it. Great tune.

Second single, "Dear Life", is a solid single, though I believe there are stronger songs on the album that could have been released instead. New single, "Enough", featuring Gizzle, is simply brilliant. Starting with that hypnotising piano and soft vocals, the song builds into a powerful statement. The chorus has such a passioned performance from Delta, matched with the haunting beat, this is a great single.

Opener, "Feline", is the dramatic start the album needed with great strings and a powerhouse vocal. This is a strong song with a powerful message of self acceptance. "In the Name of Love" has a solid beat, catchy chorus and is all kinds of infectious. The gospel sounding, "River", is another great example of this album's great vocals and "Heavy" is simply perfect, a heartfelt ballad that builds to a faster vocal that shows amazing passion.

While last album, "Child of the Universe" was a little inconsistent, new album, "Wings of the Wild", is a stunner from start to finish. Well done Delta, now suck on that haters!
