Album Review: Superwoman - Rebecca Ferguson

We often talk about our love for Rebecca Ferguson here at Internal Jukebox. She has one of those truly unique voices that can't be found often. So we were pretty excited when we heard she was releasing a new album of originals - and we were not disappointed. "Superwoman" is a powerful album filled with great tunes from one of the world's best vocalists.

I will always lament that Ferguson does not have the career she deserves. Her voice is crazy good, not just crazy good, brilliant. From the first time I heard, "Nothing's Real But Love", I was sold. Songs like, "Shoulder to Shoulder" and "Backtrack" only cemented that love. She deserves to be heard, so if you agree, play her music to your friends - make them feel the love too!

Ferguson knows her way around a ballad, and I thought that's what we would get, an album full of ballads. But no, this is an album of old school R&B, soul tunes that sound like updated versions of Motown classics. It is such a joyous album, a celebration of powerful women that is packed full of soul, solid tunes and a flawless voice.

First single, "Bones" is a winner. A cover of the song by the brilliant Kiwi artist, Ginny Blackmore. It is emotive and hits you straight in the heart, the lyrics are beautiful and Ferguson knows how to deliver them with extra punch.

"Hold Me" sounds like an anthem and has a brilliant chorus, it has single written all over it. Title track, "Superwoman" is glorious with its big notes, message of empowerment and soul. "Don't Want You Back" is a brilliant song with a great build, and "Without a Woman" has driving guitars which really sit well in this great track.

"Superwoman" really does cement Ferguson's place as one of this generation's strongest singers. Her soulful voice is truly beautiful and these songs match her voices power. This is one great album!
