Maroon 5 are quite fascinating right now, their sound is evolving as they explore the more pop side of their chosen rock/pop genre. And if there was ever going to be an anthem for the upcoming American summer, then this is it.
Now I know there is a radio edit, and the single cover hides part of the title, but I'm about to turn 40, so I have no problem saying "Motherfucker". In fact, I love saying it, "Motherfucker", "Motherfucker", "Motherfucker". And why is it as people we love when people swear in pop songs? If done well, they always become massive hits. Now I'm suddenly singing CeeLo's "Fuck You".
But let's not take anything away from how good this song is. Maroon 5's "V" album has had some amazing hits, "It Was Always You", "Maps", "Animals" and their current smash, "Sugar". The album has clearly done so well that they have re-issued the album with some new tracks, including this corker.
There's so much to love about this piece of electro synth pop/rock. The beat is fierce and a little dirty, Levine sounds as good as ever, and the lyrics about a stuck up ex who thinks she's a bit too "fancy", are great. This is a very catchy tune that will have you singing along - hopefully to the original, not the radio edit! It's a wonderful chorus.
As I said, Maroon 5 are pretty fascinating right now and I look forward to hearing what they do next. This is a pretty great song!
