Logies 2015 - Where were the Aussie singers?

So it was the Logies last night, and it was one of the sleekest Logies in years. There were some deserving winners – so happy to see the amazing Wentworth win “Most Outstanding Drama”, and how beautiful was Carrie Bickmore’s speech when she deservedly won Gold? There were some great presenters too, Dave Hughes opener was hilarious and Julia Morris always makes me laugh hysterically.

But the one big question of the night, where were the Australian musicians? We always fill these award shows with international performers, almost insinuating that our performers aren’t good enough. Sure Meghan Trainor has had some big hits over this past year, but she performed twice, twice! What a slap in the face to our artists. And Ricky Martin? Sure, I thought he was great, 15 years ago. Clearly his career isn’t going that well or he wouldn’t be available to work on The Voice in Australia. And let’s face it, that song was no “Livin La Vida Loca”.

So who could have performed instead? Let me suggest five artists who would have been better choices.

1 – Sia

Clearly she’s been in Australia recently, wasn’t it only last week that she had a bat crazy brilliant performance on Sunrise? She is the biggest talent this country has right now. She did an amazing Grammy performance, why couldn’t she have done something similar for the Logies? “Chandelier”, “Elastic Heart” or “Big Girls Cry”, I would have been happy with any of these songs. She probably could have stood on stage and farted for three minutes and I’d buy the iTunes track. And while I appreciate people love Meghan Trainor, Sia is 100 times better. I mean, its Sia!

2 – Samantha Jade

Now hear me out. I know her recent releases haven’t exactly set the charts alight and I’m not calling for her to do her Woolies jingles on the stage, but she was nominated for a Logie last night. She was nominated for her portrayal of Kylie Minogue in the INXS biopic. Just because of that reason she was a worthy addition to the live roster. She could have even done a Kylie song, now that’s something I would have loved to have seen.

3 – INXS

I know I bagged out Ricky Martin for not being relevant and INXS have certainly had their day, but their biopic won an award last night and was nominated for many more. They are arguably Australia’s best ever band with some amazing hits. Why not get them to perform “Never Tear Us Apart” with a newer Aussie artist filling in on vocals? Pick a name and they could have done it – it would have been lovely to see them on stage one more time after such a big year for the band.

4 – Jarryd James

“Do You Remember?” is massive right now, it peaked at number two on the ARIA charts and has introduced the country to this amazing talent from Brisbane. It would have been great to see such a new Aussie talent owning the stage with all those celebs singing along to a truly great song. Now that I’ve thought about this, I’m annoyed – he would have been great up there at the Logies.

5 – Nathaniel

I debated over this last spot, I was thinking about Delta, after all she did present the Gold. But I thought the last spot should go to this talented young man from Australia. He has had some great hits over the past two years, and how good would “Live Louder” have been on the stage? It’s a big pop/dance song that would have had everyone on their feet singing along. Throw in some dancers and it would have been an amazing spectacle.

So who do you think could have replaced Meghan Trainor’s second performance at the Logies? Tell me in the comments section below.
