Top 5 Songs: Christina Aguilera

I sometimes forget how much I really do love Christina Aguilera. Then I'll hear a song or a clip of hers and am reminded of how awesome she is. My latest reminder, her great guest appearance on a favourite show of mine, "Nashville". Seeing her battle it out last week with Hayden Panettiere  was amazing. Then I was compiling this list and listened to her back catalogue again and realised she truly is one of the best vocalists in the world.

I had a conversation with a friend last week about the Top 5, and how hard it is each week to narrow it down to just five. She suggested maybe a six or seven, but I started with five, so I will continue to battle it out and find just five.

So many great Xtina songs to choose from. You know it's a good list when some massive hits miss the list. Sorry to "Beautiful", good song, just missed the list. Also missing out were, "Come On Over Baby", "Dirrty" and "Ain't No Other Man", songs I loved that just missed out. Then there's the brilliant "Lady Marmalade" - I wanted to include it in the list, but I thought cause there were three others on the track, I'd leave it to just her solo hits. I genuinely adore all five of these songs, so please have a look and let me know in the comments what your favourite Xtina tracks are.

5 - Hurt

Christina is known for her stunning ballads and this is my favourite of hers. It had such an adult sound and is a truly beautiful track where her voice soars. Co-written with producer extraordinaire Linda Perry and surprisingly Mark Ronson, the lyrics are stunning, "I'm sorry for blaming you for everything I just couldn't do, and I hurt myself by hurting you." This song about loss makes me heart sing.

4 - Genie in a Bottle

Christina's first hit and is still an absolute classic. This monster pop hit with a great beat introduced the world to Christina Aguilera and her wonderful voice. She was introduced as a poor man's Britney Spears, but it was soon clear that she had the supreme vocal power. And what a catchy song it is with a pretty extraordinary chorus - still love it all these years later.

3 - Fighter

As big as an anthem as Christina does, this is a special song. Harking to the great pop/rock songs of the past, like MJ's "Dirty Diana" and Janet's "Black Cat", the electric guitars and pop beats fit together perfectly. Then there's that voice, she purrs notes and they sound brilliant. It's an inspirational tune about never backing down and it's all kinds of great!

2 - Your Body

It was very tempting to put this song at one, I love it so very much. While Christina's "Lotus" album may be considered a flop, this first single from the album is all kinds of bliss. An ode to casual sex and forgetting your day, its dirty groove fits perfectly with that perfect voice. It's a great tune and then comes the back end and it gets even better, as Christina belts, "You already know my name", I want to throw my hands in the air, preach her name and dance. Such a sexy song!

1 - Not Myself Tonight

From the opening speech about not feeling herself tonight, this song just grabs you. Sure the clip was a Gaga rip off, but the song was just classic Christina - and for me it's her best. It's what she does best, a dirty beat with risque lyrics and her powerhouse voices. This dancefloor thumper had me addicted for a long time, I still smile when it comes on. When she hits those notes it sounds effortless and is sheer perfection. This is classic pop!
