Sometimes something clicks in your brain, a song that you only liked, within a day can grow to become a song that you truly love, a song you can't get out of your internal jukebox - that happened for me with me Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor's "Marvin Gaye".
Charlie Puth has been making YouTube videos for a few years, but this is his debut single (his second single, featuring on Wiz Khalifa's Fast & Furious 7 song "See You Again", is out now too). It's one of those tracks that takes a few listens to really appreciate its greatness. This is a sexy song, you now the type. Turn the lights off, light some candles, pour some wine and blare the song and well, "Let's Marvin Gaye and get it on". I imagine there will be some kids born in 9 months who were conceived while their parents "listened" to this song.
Musically this track is fantastic. Marvin Gaye first hit big in the 60's, and that's where the sound of this track is rooted, in the 60's. It's like an old doo-wop song but still manages to sound fresh and current. The beat of this song is incredibly rich, I have been playing it many times all week, in fact, I'm playing it right now!
Until this song, I haven't been the biggest fan of Meghan Trainor. I didn't mind "All About That Base" at first, but then it went onto the limited playlist at my work and I heard it about 6 times a day - I unfortunately grew to hate the song. But with her fabulous contribution to this song, I might now become a fan. Her voice sounds great here, and she and Puth sound fantastic together. Puth, of course, is a brilliant vocalist.
If you don't know the song, check it out. Once you start to love it, you'll be singing that chorus over and over again. This is one catchy song with a fantastic groove. I love it, and so should you!
