EP Review: Miss You - Gabrielle Aplin

It seems EP's are back "in vogue". It seems like a great way of getting out new music as albums aren't selling as well. And I love listening to an EP, it always leaves you wanting more. And that's exactly how I feel about the new EP from the very talented Gabrielle Aplin. "Miss You" is certainly short, sharp and special,

Gabrielle is a great artist, her first album, "English" rain was simply beautiful, and the lead singles, "The Power of Love", "Please Don't Say You Love Me" and "Panic Cord" were all big favourites, and her cover with Bastille, "Dreams", was something you NEED to hear if you haven't. It's nice to hear her beautiful voice again on some fresh work that is certainly excellent.

"Miss You" sounds like something fresh for Gabrielle, sure you can hear the older influences but this is a young lady who is really finding a sound. The sparse beats sound perfect alongside Gabrielle's cute but strong vocals. The verses have a great laidback feel and then the chorus takes it up a little and is completely infectious. The lyrics are also super strong. What a great lead single.

"Night Bus" again has a great beat, this one a bit more driving - however we still get that whimsical feeling which makes us love Gabrielle so much. Lyrically I can hear similarities to "Panic Cord", but it feels like an evolution. This is a great tune that makes you move and think at the same time.

Then there's "Run For Cover", it builds so beautifully. It starts small with so much passion and slowly increases its great energy. Gabrielle emotes perfectly and it is on full display here. And again lyrically it is great, "The house is burning, better run for cover".

We finish with the piano version of "Miss You", which really brings a new feel to this great song, a yearning, and the piano is divine. It is the perfect finish.

What a great EP from a very talented young performer. I hope this is a precursor to a new album - cause we need one!
