Another week, another awesome selection of new release singles. January is usually a dead spot, not this year - we have seen some great tunes released. And this week is no different, amazing new tunes from Troye Sivan, Lady Antebellum, Nashville star Clare Bowen and not one, but two, new songs from Tinie Tempah.
Check out the list, and tell us in the comments which of these tunes you love!
Love Steps In - Clare Bowen
When Clare Bowen played in Sydney last year she played this beautiful song and every member of the audience felt the beautiful words and intent. Clare Bowen is a major talent, and how wonderful that last week we covered a song from her "Nashville" co-star, Sam Palladio, and this week it is her turn. Clare has such a subtly beautiful voice that emotes perfectly. This tune about her brother's cancer is so honest, raw and touching in its simple beauty. A song from the heart that is riveting and needs to be heard.
Back in the Room - KLP
KLP is Aussie producer Kristy Lee Peters and she has released a banger of a single this week. "Back in the Room" is a perfect little slice of pop. With that great 90s sound that is so popular right now, there's a great ease to the beat that matches perfectly with the great vocals. The production is on point and the chorus is suitably addictive. Australian pop sometimes has the ability to sound all alike, but this track stands on its own as something very special.
You Look Good - Lady Antebellum
Lady Antebellum are back with a great new tune, "You Look Good". Back for album number six, the band still has one of my all time favourite tunes, "Need You Now". And they are back in form with this cracker of a single. While they maintain those country roots, there's a nice pop beat that makes sure this will be crossover hit. Vocally they always sound great and the instrumentation is always on point. This is an easy tune, perfect for the Australian summer.
On + Off - Maggie Rogers
Maggie Rogers really has come out of nowhere to capture so many people's attention. Incredibly original, her sound is uniquely quirky and completely captivating. "On + Off" lacks the polish of so many new releases, and that's what makes it so refreshing. Maggie's voice is distinctively great and shows so much soul. After a few listens, you are ready to press repeat again - the song is light and catchy. Many people will be loving this song this year.
Chasing Flies (Feat. Nea) - Tinie Tempah
There's something innately likeable about Tinie Tempah, and over the years he has released some legitimately amazing singles. Well this week he is back with two new singles. Up first is ""Chasing Flies", which is the more subtle of the pair. With some great drum and percussion, this track feels fresh and appealing. Newcomer, Nea, sounds great and Tempah's rhymes are again brilliant. This track is a definite grower and after a few listens I'm loving it.
Text From Your Ex (feat. Tinashe) - Tinie Tempah
While there's a subtle beauty to "Chasing Flies", "Text From Your Ex" is brash pop that is instantly addictive. Borrowing heavily from the 90s sound, this track has some unusual production that is fantastic, some of these sounds are so unexpected but awesome. Tinashe has been on fire of late, and sounds amazing once again. This is such a damn fine song and makes you want to dance, I expect it to be a massive hit.
Heaven (feat. Betty Who) - Troye Sivan
So very happy this brilliant tune has been released as a single (we weren't able to load the clip, but make sure you check it out). When I saw Troye play Sydney last year he spoke openly about this beautiful song and its meaning - the battle so many gay people have faced been being themselves and believing in religion. Troye's voice sounds as ethereal and brilliant as always, and it's lovely to hear some more from Betty Who. The production is brilliant, making this wonderfully emotive. Troye Sivan is an important artist, and a very talented one.
On the Go - WSTRN
Getting a re-release this week is this funky track from WSTRN who had some really great tunes last year; both "In2" and "Come Down" were brilliant. "On the Go" is a little more subtle, the beat laidback but hard. The guys have a fresh approach to their vocals that is quite distinctive. This is another winner from the lads.
