Top 5 Songs: Backstreet Boys

Backstreet's back, alright! Well not quite back, but they are being featured this week on our always popular Top 5 song list. So have a read of our list and compare results. What's your favourite BSB song? Tell us in the comments section below.

Backstreet Boys are the best selling boy band of all time, pretty impressive. And no surprise really, they have had some amazing tunes over the years. And quite a few I am bummed about not including on the list, amazing tunes like, "The Call", "Incomplete" and "Drowning". And I should hang my head in shame for not including, "I Want It That Way". But I promise, the five tunes I've included are winners.

5 - Don't Turn Out the Lights (with NKOTB)

A team up made in the heavens. While BSB are the highest selling boy band of all time, New Kids on the Block ruled the late 80s / early 90s. This could have ended up horribly but the combination worked beautifully. The beat is quite intense while giving a very cool air. The vocals work brilliantly, with the lads given a chance to shine individually. The best part has to be that great chorus which is incredibly catchy. A lot of people don't know this song, which is a real shame - it's a treat for fans of boybands and good pop.

4 - More Than That

Backstreet Boys have always had a knack for making great ballads, and as their career progressed, these ballads became beautifully sophisticated. "More Than That" sums this up perfectl, the gents harmonise so beautifully on this track and the beat is light and airy. Lyrically, the track gives such a sweet longing and is incredibly strong. The build is also great before the dip at the end, always the best part. Wind machines on, now listen to the track again.

3 - Everybody (Backstreet's Back)

Probably the most famous song for the gents, and remarkably for a song that has their name in the title, it has held up very well. I heard someone sing this at karaoke this month, and the whole pub loved it. The beautiful thing about this track is that it took the lads from being just another a boyband to being something iconic. This song is ridiculously catchy, it's the kind of chorus that will get stuck in your head for weeks at a time. This song is a classic.

2 - Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)

This was not the lad's first single, but it was their first breakthrough single. It was the first one that really made me take notice - I heard it once and went out and bought their album immediately. In a sea of generic boyband tunes, this stuck out as something special. produced beautifully, the beat was different and the vocals were sharp and on point. This track still sounds as good today, all these years later.

1 - Shape of my Heart

Everyone seems to have a different favourite BSB song, for me it is this powerful ballad. It is so wonderfully emotive and delivers a heavy punch to the heart. Lyrically this is the kind of song I love, heartfelt lyrics that you can put yourself into. I particularly love the third verse, and always feel the power of the words and great vocals. The harmonises are some of their best and the song may be subtle but is incredibly strong. A classic tune.
