Album Review: HERE - Alicia Keys

"HERE" is the 6th studio album by one of the world's best vocalists, the astonishing Alicia Keys. And yet again, she has made an album of beautifully powerful R&B / pop that shows she isn't going anywhere for a long time.

For years Alicia Keys has been releasing exceptional albums with brilliant singles. There hasn't been an album that has not included a few songs that I have gone crazy for. As she develops as an artist, her sound has gotten more urban, and deeper in meaning. Alicia Keys has the rare ability to perfectly emote as she sings, each song telling a story with just her voice. And what a voice; the passion, the power - she is such a unique talent.

This, once again, is a great album from Ms Keys. Bizarrely this year's releases, "In Common" and "Hallelujah" are both bonus tracks on the deluxe edition. Both these songs are so good, especially "In Common", which was on rotation for me earlier in the year. It is such a smooth song with great lyrics and an easy feel paired with Keys's powerhouse vocals.

There is a lot to like here. First full track, "The Gospel", sets the scene perfectly. It has a great beat and passion and the hurried delivery makes it extra special. "Pawn It All" is all soul and all fabulous. while "She Doesn't Really Care / 1 Luv" has a smooth ease and a lot of heart.

It is as the album progresses that the heat and passion is dialled up. "Illusion of Bliss" is restrained but powerful. She pushes her voice so hard that the vulnerability is evident and it is refreshing - this is a woman unafraid to show her flaws. "Girl Can Be Herself" is a great anthem of self empowerment for all women. Then new single, "Holy War" knocks us out with its sincerity and power. This is a woman who cares deeply for the world and what we're doing with it. Bravo Alicia.

You always know an Alicia Keys album is going to bring a great consistency. She is a true talent who knows how to make a great album, and once again, "HERE" delivers majorly!
