Top 50 Songs of 2015

2015, what a great year for music! There were so many tunes that we loved here at Internal Jukebox, and there are some songs we can't believe missed our end of year countdown - 50 just seems too few. But take a look our list, and tell us in the comments section below which of these tunes you love, and what you would put on your end of year list.

Top 5 Christmas Songs of 2015

It's Christmas time again. Time for celebration, good food and spending money we just don't have on presents that people will probably hate! But there's also some great Christmas music. There's the tracks we love to pull out every year, but there's also a great amount of Christmas songs that are released every year. Like last year's popular list, we look back at the best five releases of this year's Christmas season.

It's been quite the wait for a new album of Samantha Jade originals, but now, after winning Australian X-Factor in 2012, she finally has her album out; and it's as fun and fabulous as you would want it to be.

When you are listing the best female pop acts of the 80s and 90s, you just have to list pop powerhouse, Kim Wilde. With some massive hits to her name in both decades, it was about time we celebrated her career with a Top 5 songs list.

I can tell you that when I first started writing this blog, I never thought that Tina Arena's amazing hit, "Chains" would end up a new single of the week, but here it is, featuring Tina with Jessica Mauboy and The Veronicas, and quite simply, it is brilliant!

Two weeks ago we went back in time to 1990 to look at 10 awesome songs you may have forgotten. Well, this week, we turn back the clock to 1991 and there were just so many songs to choose from - but I must admit these are some great songs that have some truly great memories for me ... and maybe you.

Album Review: 25 - Adele

If anyone doubted the gauntlet that is Adele, then they have been well and truly silenced. In its first week of release, sales of Adele's brilliant new "25" have out performed every other album from history for first week sales, beating N Sync's record of 2 million albums in one week - now that is impressive. Even more impressive, it looks like she will finish the week with 3 million sales, and that's just in the US alone.

Time to celebrate a legend. Britney Spears has been one of the world's biggest stars since 1998, she has produced some amazing pop that has really become a pop culture phenomenon. Time she was honoured with a Top 5 list.

It's November, so it must be time for a new One Direction album, the fifth in five years. The sad news, this may just be their last album - thank heavens it's a stellar one ... as usual!

Well, it's that time of the year again, Christmas, so here come the Christmas themed albums. Some of them bring a new meaning to the word dodgey, others are simply fantastic. Now I am fully aware how behind I am putting this as the single of the week, it was released earlier this year but in my defence, here in Australia, the song has only just started charting and it is massive here right now. And I've just realised how incredible this song is!

The 90s are so big, again. It's inspiring current music and fashion. Plus, it's great to go back and check out the awesome songs of the 90s, they do bring me sheer joy. That's what we're going to do over the next 10 weeks, look at the best songs of the 90s. These weren't the biggest songs of the year, and you may have forgotten some, but all these are tracks I look back on with great affection. First up, 1990.

Single of the Week: Focus - Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande is back with a fierce new single and an album on the way. While "Focus" may not have the immediate appeal of "Problem" and "Break Free", after several listens it gets stuck in your head and I felt no other option than to make it single of the week.

The world again has some amazing girl groups catching the attention of the pop world. Single of the Week: Disclosure featuring Lorde - Magnets

Sometimes songs have a way of working their way deep into your psyche. That's why this blog is called Internal Jukebox, because sometimes a song gets stuck on repeat and you have it stuck in your internal jukebox. This week that song was the new one from Disclosure featuring New Zealand's favourite daughter, Lorde. In fact, I had planned to have another song as my single of the week, but then I just couldn't escape this great tune, and knew it just had to be the single of the week.

The Top 20 Stock, Aitken & Waterman Songs

Stock, Aitken & Waterman made my high school years. While I may have gone to a fairly rough Western Sydney School and all my friends were discovering Guns 'n' Roses, Bon Jovi and still holding a torch for Cold Chisel; I was all about the poptastic produced hits of Stock, Aitken & Waterman.

When there's a brand spanking new Sia song, that is reason to celebrate - but when it's this good, there's extra reason to celebrate and to proudly make it our single of the week.

Top Ten Bond Songs

Bond. James Bond Themes. There's often as much excitement about the themes to the movies as there is about the films themselves. And they always attract major stars to record them. In a time when movie soundtracks really don't do as well as they used to, it's nice to see the Bond themes still as big as ever (the latest Sam Smith Bond Theme was last week number one in the UK). With the recent release of the latest Bond theme, it felt like the right time to look at my favourite Top Ten James Bond themes.

Janet is back (that's Ms Jackson if you're nasty), with her first new album in seven years and the result is an amazing return to form for one of the best female artists of all time.

Top 5 Songs: Salt 'n' Pepa

Salt 'n' Pepa's here and we're in effect! Indeed! The first ladies of hip-hop, Salt 'n' Pepa, are a group that I have always adored. Fresh and funky, the ladies knew how to release great tunes, so it is with great excitement that this week we celebrate their career with a Top 5 list of their best songs.

Single of the Week: This Ain't Love - Jessica Mauboy

There is something magical about the work of Ms Jessica Mauboy, she continues to deliver solid song after song, and in preparation for her fourth album, she has again released a corker of a track, the brilliant, "This Ain't Love" - a song that had to be our single of the week.

With an album that features six hit singles, it was certainly time for the wondrous Jess Glynne to release her debut album, and what a great album it is. Pop it on, feel the beat, love the vocals and lose yourself in the music.

Truth be told, I have gone absolutely crazy for the new single by Sydney singer / songwriter, Meg Mac. This songs puts my hands in the air and a smile on my face, so it seems fitting to make, "Never Be", this week's Single of the Week.

Album Review: Male - Natalie Imbruglia

After a very long hiatus, the wonderful Natalie Imbruglia returns with a great collection of covers simply called, "Male". The name is due to all these songs originally being from male artists. While I certainly would have preferred an album of new work, this is a great collection of songs that Imbruglia gives her own personal stamp to.

Troye Sivan is artist to watch. Beginning his career on YouTube, he has risen above the rest of his peers to become an incredible artist with a massive future. His new EP, WILD, is quite simply stunning.

Top 5 Songs: Bananarama

I love the ladies of Bananarama, their music has given me years and years of pleasure. All the way through line up changes and the decades they have continued to make pop music that is just so amazingly addictive. I'm pretty excited to compile this week's Top 5 list for the ever fabulous, Bananarama.

Single of the Week: What Do You Mean? - Justin Bieber

Bieber is back, in a big way. Currently number one in Australia and the UK, "What Do You Mean?" looks set to be Bieber's biggest hit ever - and rightly so. The stunning "What Do You Mean?" is a great direction for Bieber and I'm very excited to make it this week's Single of the Week.

20 Should've Been Hits

There are songs we all love that we say to ourselves, “How the hell didn’t that become a hit? Seriously, it’s a good song!” That’s what this list is about. Songs I have always loved, but I may be alone in my adoration of these great tracks. Some were minor hits, but none of these brilliant songs were massive hits.
