Album Review: I Am - Leona Lewis

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the continued evolution of Ms Leona Lewis. With her fifth studio album, "I Am", Leona continues to make great music with an evolving sound and her brilliant trademark vocals. The result is quite simply stunning, a beautiful album that is a joy to hear.

Leona's success hasn't been as big lately, and that is a shame; as she is just as good as she's ever been. Her first album may have the classic, "Bleeding Love", but the album as a whole was inconsistent. "I Am", is very consistent, consistently great, and is her second best album to date, after the brilliant, "Echo".

There is so much to celebrate here, and not a bad song in the collection of 10 songs. While old school Leona ballads are such a great showcase for THAT voice, it is the new sound that has me the most excited. The highlight of any Leona Lewis album is her voice, effortless, rich and so very beautiful. She knows her voice so well and the way she belts it out is very inspiring.

First single, "Fire Under My Feet", is still as good as when we named it single of the week. (http://theinternaljukebox.blogspot.com.au/2015/06/single-of-week-fire-under-my-feet-leona.html). It is a catchy anthem with a great clap track and some very singable lyrics. The song is so incredibly passionate.

Opener "Thunder" is such a great start, an epic pop song that paints a picturesque image. The beat is good, the drums are great and the vocals are amazing. This song deserves to be a massive hit. "Another Love Song" is another very solid pop/dance track. Love the beat, especially the hint of reggae. This is a total anthem. "Ladders" has a great mid tempo beat with a great gospel feel.

Old school Leona sees her belt out some amazing power ballads. "I Am" is inspirational, passioned and joyous. It has beautiful strings and a great build. Plus, you have to love those lyrics, "Thought I would never rise again, but I am." "The Essence of Me" is another fantastic, inspiring and beautiful track. Once again with great lyrics, "Got nothing to fear but my own fear", amen Leona!

What a gem of an album. Leona Lewis continues to grow as an artist and we, her fans, are the ones who reap the benefits. I do hope this album receives more attention as it deserves to be heard!
