New Release Singles - Jan 2017 Wk 4

The final week of January and we have some amazing singles once again. February, you are on warning, January was incredible. This week there's new music from Nathaniel, Zara Larsson, James Blunt, Major Lazer, Keyshia Cole and two new Nelly Furtado tracks - just to name a few.

So take a look at our list and let us know which of these songs you love too.

Run - Cascada

Since 2004, Cascada have been releasing their own blend of Euro dance music. Musically they haven't changed much, thick synth beats, catchy choruses and strong vocals. "Run" continues this tradition. Yes, it sounds a lot like what they've done in the past, but it's still a great song. Cascada have a knack for making infectious music that gets stuck in your head, and they've done that again with "Run". This pop is designed to put a smile on your face.

Love Me Better - James Blunt

James Blunt is a divisive figure, people decided they were just going to take aim at him. Well Blunt had his revenge by being one of the most fascinating people on Twitter. And now he has released this fantastically self-deprecating tune that includes gold lyrics such as, ""People say the meanest things. Yeah I've been called a dick," and "Would have said you're beautiful but I've used that line before". Say what you will about the man, but he knows how to write a great song and his voice is soulful and skillful. I welcome his return and will buy his new album, just to piss off the haters!

You (feat. French Montana & Remy Ma) - Keyshia Cole

Oh Keyshia Cole, how you give me joy. Love tunes like, "Enough Of No Love", "I Ain't Thru" and "Rick James", which made our Top 50 songs of the year a few years back. She's back and she's as fierce as ever. There's a power to Keyshia which is undeniable, it's in her lyrics, her strong delivery and her very presence. She is an empowered woman and it is a delight to watch. The beat is thick and the slow groove is undeniable. Once again, Keyshia has delivered a brilliant single that I know will be on heavy rotation.

Quit You (feat. Tinashe) - Lost Kings

The second week in a row we have a Tinashe song featured on our list, when does she sleep? Once again, the song she's on is a winner. There's a great ease to "Quit You" that is undeniable. The track is brilliantly produced, with subtle verses and a powerful chorus that makes you want to move. This will clearly be an earworm that people will have stuck in their heads. Love a good dance song with great lyrics, and these ones are winners, there's a Coldplay reference and then this gem, "God knows I can't fix you, but I can't quit you". It's a winner.

Run Up (Feat. PARTYNEXTDOOR & Nicki Minaj) - Major Lazer

After the massive success of last year's collaboration with Justin Bieber, "Cold Water", Major Lazer are back with this party pleaser. You can always count on Major Lazer for some impressive beats and they have the draw power to get the best musicians as features, this time securing the gifts of PARTYNEXTDOOR and one of our favourites, Nicki Minaj. The beat here is catchy as hell and the verses are fun. Nicki Minaj really is a wonder, her verses are fresh, fierce and fun. Always nice to see her back, and on great music.

Scared To Be Lonely (feat. Dua Lipa) - Martin Garrix

Just like Tinashe, Dua Lipa must never sleep - she's been featuring on a lot of tracks lately. Though we REALLY want her new album, please Dua!!! But for now, we get this amazing track which may just be my favourite new release for the week. Following on from the fabulous, "In the Name of Love", Martin Garrix is really on fire right now. This is the best of his recent releases. Dua sounds as amazing as ever, the beats are current and hypnotising and those lyrics are fantastic, "Is the only reason you're holding me tonight, 'cause we're scared to be lonely?" Great stuff, play this loud readers, it's a winner.

Vapours - Nathaniel

One of our favourite Aussie artists is back with brilliant new music. Nathaniel is a real talent, a delicate and strong R&B voice that is completely unique. He's parted ways with his record label and gone independent, this allows him a freedom in his music and it's evident as "Vapours" sounds very fresh and is a definite departure from his debut album. The beat here is great and Nathaniel's smooth vocals are a perfect match for the intensity that builds in the chorus. Nathaniel deserves an audience, so buy this one on iTunes like I did.

Cold Hard Truth - Nelly Furtado

Really looking forward to the new Nelly Furtado album. Last year's "Islands of Me" was a beauty and her tracks this week are amazing. This is the pick of the pair and sees Nelly a little closer to the Nelly we met as she told us she was like a bird. Sure, the great beat is still there, and the depth of the beat is impressive, but the vocals feel easier and closer to her truth. This is a catchy tune with a great chorus and the build is great with the end of the song being completely addictive.

Pipe Dreams - Nelly Furtado

Here's Nelly's second release for the week, a more delicate track that finds Nelly hitting that lower register. There's a lovely subtlety at work here. A nice beat that is sits perfectly behind a strong delivery from Nelly that builds intensity as the song progresses. "Pipe Dreams" is beautifully complex and feels very mature. You have to love the instrumentation, which is quite unique and seems to fit perfectly with a tune called, "Pipe Dreams". This album is going to be great.

So Good (feat. Ty Dolla $ign) - Zara Larsson

Just like Tinashe and Dua Lipa, Zara Larsson is doing some overtime in the recording studio. Let's hope we get an album soon, cause she has dropped a lot of singles over the last year. And this just may be her best solo tune, it's right up there with "Lush Life" as a fantastic single. It's a little lighter than some of her other releases, but has a great pop / R&B blend that is a real winner. The vocals are strong but light and Ty's verse has the same great vibe. Zara is really one of the best discoveries of the past few years.
