Album Review: 24 HRS - Olly Murs

Can you believe Olly Murs is already up to album number five? And over those albums, Olly has managed to create his own sound and brand. It's great to see him settle into his musical skin and produce a solid and confident album of great pop.

Olly really is a bit of a loveable larrikin, he is a true character but this album sees him play it a little more serious. Break ups do that to you, but it has resulted in Olly creating probably his most personal album to date. But not to worry, it's still fun pop designed for sing alongs. These are catchy tunes, with good beats, slick production and infectious choruses.

Olly's voice is also maturing and he is sounding stronger than ever. There's such great character in his usual register, but when he hits those high notes, his voice soars. Olly has great pop sensibilities and his albums really are easy to listen to and enjoy.

Olly has always released amazing singles, "Troublemaker", "Up" and "Kiss Me" being three of my favourites, well first single, "You Don't Know Love" ranks right up there. Clearly personal, this bit of pop gold takes us on quite the journey in its 3 minutes. Love that bridge, when his voice raises and he passionately tells us, "Cause of you I know lies" - powerful stuff. And the chorus is just great, it sets the scene perfectly for the album.

The rest of the album is just as pop-tastic. "Years and Years" has solid production, a great piano track and this awesome beat that break through on the track. "Grow Up" seems extra personal, "Closer to the mirror than you are to me" - it's a really great track. As is, "Back Around", which is very solid. "24HRS" is a nice piece of subtle electronica and "Love You More" is beautifully impassioned. "Flaws" is a stunning ballad with beautiful lyrics and "How Much For Your Love" is the perfect playful ending to the album.

It's no surprise that Olly Murs has once created a great pop album with solid tunes that make you want to dance and sing-along. Olly is one of the UK's best pop acts, and "24 HRS" really does cement that.
