Album Review: DNCE- DNCE

It seems that DNCE's debut album, "DNCE" has been a long time coming. We've had a great EP and their debut single, "Cake By the Ocean" has had a massive year. So it's great we finally have an album, and it is as wonderful as we could have hoped.

I was lucky enough to see DNCE perform earlier this year in Sydney as support act to Selena Gomez and they were brilliant. There was a quirkiness to their performance, an ease, and a great pop sensibility - and it's nice to see all those things have continued with their whole album.

DNCE produce good ole fashioned pop, a throwback sound that feels a little 90s - which is so very current. The album has a great flow and is incredibly cohesive. It's very stylised and very fun. The band sound great and Joe Jonas really is a great vocalist. For years I have loved his solo outing, "See No More", so it's great to have some more tracks to really get my teeth sunk into.

"Cake By the Ocean" is undoubtedly one of the best songs of the year. It is a brilliantly and ridiculously catchy song that has such bizarre lyrics - you just have to love it. I dare you to play it a few times and not get it stuck in your head!! "Toothbrush" is also a stunning single, a great song with an awesome funk feel and some kick arse lyrics.

While we're picking good singles, we can't go past, "Body Moves", it has such an amazing funky rhythm. Joe's voice sounds so raspy and sexy. "DNCE" is the perfect opener and is super catchy. "Doctor You" has a brilliant chorus and the band sound great on backings here. "Almost" and "Truthfully" are some really nice ballads and "Naked" is frantic and fun. The best non single on the album is definitely "Pay My Rent", it really is a great song that takes us on quite a journey and is catchy as hell.

The Jonas Brothers are having a great year, Nick's album was wonderful - but brother Joe looks to have topped him here with a damn fine album that makes me want to keep hitting repeat. Cue "Cake by the Ocean" ....
