Album Review: FMA - Grace

Last year Grace teamed up with G-Eazy to top the charts worldwide with their cover of Lesley Gore's iconic, "You Don't Own Me". It was a great cover and a deserved hit, it's always special when an Aussie artist tops the charts. I was a fan and liked Grace, but now hearing her original material, you can move me in to the column of love. Grace is one talented woman and "FMA" is one helluva debut album.

There is such a lovely authenticity to "FMA", a beautiful soul record where Grace proudly wears her beautiful heart on her sleeve. The lyrics are personal and the vocals are quite simply stunning. For someone so young, Grace's voice is certainly deep and soulful. I really could listen to those soaring vocals all day long.

Debut single, "You Don't Own Me" is here, to show the evolution of this incredible voice. Second single, "Hell of a Girl" is one of my two favourite songs on this album. The beat is fresh while still harking back to the soul music of yesterday. The vocals are sublime and the lyrics are fun and playful, this song deserves to be a massive hit.

The other big stand out on the album is the stunning ballad, "How To Love Me". Heartbreakingly raw, this is the perfect showcase of Grace's amazing voice - you certainly can hear so much of Amy Winehouse in those rich tones.

Another great track is the beautiful, "Coffee". It has a joyous sound and the guitar throughout is beautiful. This showcases the top end of Grace's voice and it is super impressive, plus the lyrics here are really great, "I drink so much, I guess they call it love". Amen!

"Church on a Sunday" has a great easy beat, a laidback ease; "Crazy Over Here", is fresh, funky and has a sexy attitude; and "Feel Your Love" has a beautiful feel to it.

To have a debut album this good, you just know that Grace is a major talent. I will most certainly be returning to this awesome album many, many times.
