Album Review: Mind of Mine - Zayn

Just over a year ago we were all shattered when Zayn left One Direction; even though we could see it coming, we mourned for the group we loved. Fast forward a year and Zayn has made us forget the sorrow with a pretty damn awesome debut album.

In all honesty, there were only truly two great singers in One Direction; Harry and Zayn. Sure the other boys were good, but it was these two who knew how to belt. So it makes sense that "Mind of Mine" is truly a celebration and demonstration of Zayn's powerhouse voice; his falsetto is remarkable.

The album is very different from Zayn's work with 1D and is very current, much of the album sounding like it could belong to Miguel or The Weeknd. This is meant as a compliment, Zayn has taken his inspiration, found amazing producers and the end result is a slick and sexy album that is rightfully topping the charts around the world.

I imagine this is the kind of album which will end up being played on date nights, candles lit, music loud and the bedroom door closed. It has a sexy feel that certainly could help someone get lucky!

As for the songs, you can't go past lead single, "Pillowtalk". It is a perfect intro to the album, slick, vocally strong and the right level of naughty. Second single, "Like I Would" builds on this with a strong chorus, killer lyrics and another vocally powerful performance.

Promo singles, "It's You" and "Befour" are also very strong, especially, "Befour". It feels like I can't stop saying the word sexy, because it is perfect to describe this funky tune that has a beautiful ease and is catchy as hell.

There's not a bad song here, other stand outs include, "Rear View", an infectious tune with a solid chorus, "TIO", another erotic (new word) song with an amazing beat and "Bright", a real standout. I've listened to this album a few times already and can see it on high rotation for quite a while.

Your move Harry Styles, because Zayn has well and truly stepped up with his debut album. Moving from pop to R&B, Zayn has well and truly made his mark. A very, very solid debut album
