Top 6 Singles: July 2016

July was a great month, it was my birthday month and there was some really great music released which made it VERY difficult to pick the best six new releases for the month. Take a read of our list and tell us in the comments which of these you love the most and what your favourite song of the month was.

Fuck Apologies - JoJo

I guess most would remember JoJo best for her 2004 smash, "Leave (Get Out)", which reached number two here in Australia. Well, she has grown up a lot since then. She's not telling you to get out this time, now she's telling you to fuck apologies. This song has only been out for a few days but it already has me in, hook, line and sinker. This is one catchy chorus, and who doesn't love some swearing in the chorus? JoJo's voice has developed beautifully, the rich tones perfect for R&B pop. I've got a feeling she may just hit it big again with this fantastic track designed for singing loudly in your car.

Body Say - Demi Lovato

I wasn't ready for a new Demi Lovato song, I am still loving her last album, so when this dropped, I was in blissful heaven. Demi really has done it again, this R&B uptempo ballad ticks all the boxes for a great Demi tune, funky beat, sexually charged lyrics and her powerful voice that continues to grow. Damn this song is sexy, Demi, why aren't you bringing your tour to Australia? If this is the first single for a new album, sign me up right away.

Need Somebody - Alex Newell

Let's face it, out of all the Glee kids, Alex Newell's post-show career has been the most fascinating. Alex continues to release amazing music that just makes me want to throw my hands in the air and dance. The ladies at work know my love of Alex and smile whenever one of his amazing tracks comes onto my iPod. This track, like previous single, "B.O.Y", has a thick constant beat and Alex's brilliant vocals, his range really is quite ridiculous. This song is going to keep me dancing for quite some time!

Rise - Katy Perry

Here is Australia we are fully aware there is a new awesome Katy Perry track, it debuted at number one on our singles chart. This song, released for the upcoming Olympics, sounds a lot like the little sister to, "Dark Horse", and that can't be a bad thing. The beat is deep and sets the mood perfectly for the inspirational lyrics. Just love the way that Perry's voice belts out the word, "Rise" at the end of the chorus. Perry really can do no wrong and this track is another song to add to her long list of mega hits.

Sledgehammer - Rihanna

Can we all just agree that Rihanna should always work with Sia? Together they create magic. Sia is a lyrical genius and knows how to push Rihanna to the depths of her register, proven by "Diamonds" and this brilliant new song. This sweeping and quite grand song from the soundtrack to the new "Star Trek" film is my favourite Rihanna song in quite some time. There's a subtle beauty to this song and it really is quite infectious, and love the lyrics, "You're just another brick and I'm a sledgehammer", break him down Rihanna, the bastard clearly deserved it!

Cruel - Snakehips featuring Zayn

Earlier in the year we were very much addicted to Snakehips, "All My Friends", and Zayn's new album is still on high rotation, so naturally when the two pair up the result was going to be a winner. The moody R&B track has a really fascinating arrangement that is beautifully complex and Zayn has been allowed to let his voice soar. This song is a great grower, sticking with you a long time after listening to it. I really am quite interested in hearing the Snakehips album when it is released, they are certainly a duo to keep watching.
