The Best 6 Singles of November 2016

Almost Christmas time, so time look back for the last time this year at the best singles of the month. Three Australian songs have made our top 6 this month, that is reason to celebrate. Have a read, listen to some tunes and tell us which of these songs you love.

Also check back later in the week for our very first chance to vote for the best songs and artists of the year.

Slumber Party - Britney Spears featuring Tinashe

Britney's "Glory" was a great comeback after the moderate success of "Britney Jean". This felt like a more Britney album, full on pop music that was a little naughty. The promo singles, "Do You Wanna Come Over?" and "Private Show" are great examples, but Britney has outdone herself with "Slumber Party". The buzz is back, people are talking about the awesome video and the song itself is so catchy. Britney sounds so seductive as she cooes over the track and Tinashe is a welcome addition. Part of me thinks this should have been the first single from the album as it is a damn fine track.

A Foreign Affair - Client Liaison featuring Tina Arena

What an interesting pairing this is, the very hip and current Client Liaison and Australia's strongest ever female vocalist, the legend that is Tina Arena. I love when Tina does dance music, "Never (Past Tense)" is one of my favourites from her, so it is great to see her feature on another upcoming Aussie dance act's album. The production here is intriguing and slick and Tina sounds as flawless as ever. "A Foreign Affair" really is a catchy tune that offers something very special to the Australian summer soundtrack.

Set in Stone - Guy Sebastian

Guy Sebastian really is a bit of an Aussie icon, the original talent show winner in Australia. The longevity of his career really is a testament to his talent. The amazing thing is that his music really does seem to be getting stronger. Over the past five years he seems to have really found his sound and his releases have been brilliant. This ballad is beautiful and is a real showcase for Sebastian's incredible voice. A simple tune with a lot of heart - look out for our review of his EP over the next few days.

Hurt Anymore - Samantha Jade & Cyrus

Along with Dami Im, Samantha Jade and Cyrus are certainly the most talented winners of the Australian X-Factor - so how great it is that these two have done a duet, and what a great song. This is an old school duet with a modern feel. It's a great love song with some passionate lyrics and flawless vocals. Samantha Jade is so talented and it is nice to finally get some new music from Cyrus. Together they really do sound quite beautiful - this one has been on high rotation for me this month. Support some great Australian music.

Haters - TLC

I was lucky enough to see TLC last month in Sydney (check out our review in the November section) and they were phenomenal. It was also great to discover they are about to release a new album, I'd downloaded "Haters" just before the show and was ready to hear it live and it was amazing. The ladies are back firing again. This positive tune about not listening to your haters has a great beat and an infectious chorus. T-Boz and Chilli are still sounding great and their new album is certainly very highly anticipated.

On Hold - The XX

When "Angels" came out from The XX, I was in love. It was such a great track. While I've enjoyed other songs from them, nothing else came close to "Angels", until now. Their new single, "On Hold" really is quite stunning. It is trippy and it is beautiful - the music is divine and the vocals are awesome. The structure of the song is quite intriguing and takes us on quite the journey. After a few listens, this song gets stuck in your head - it really is a great track.
