There was only one choice for single of the week and it's a remix of a cover that I loved from two years ago! It's the Felix Jaehn's remix of Jasmine Thompson's incredible cover of the Chaka Khan classic "Ain't Nobody".
Most Australians will know Jasmine Thompson as the voice of Robin Schulz's Top Ten hit, "Sun Goes Down". I discovered her amazingly smoky voice on her brilliant stripped back cover of "Ain't Nobody". It was a great reworking of a song that's been covered many, many times. In fact, there have been great covers of the Chaka Khan classic. Loved the '94 cover by Jaki Graham, as well as Liberty X's dance version. Also there have been versions from LL Cool J, Mary J Blige and Natasha Bedingfield. Clearly good songs resonate and that's why they are covered so many times.
Love the xylophone in this song, how many time do you hear someone say that? It starts the track beautifully, then the clap track and the deep house kick in to make it the kind of track you can close your eyes and dance to. Love the perfect combination of sweetness and dirtiness in the track.
There's a subtle beauty to Thompson's voice that is just exquisite. Let's hope with the combination of the Robin Schultz track and this great remix, she will get the attention she deserves and we'll be able to hear some more from that silky voice soon.
