Album Review: Delirium - Ellie Goulding

Ellie Goulding is not mucking around, she has just released a stellar album with 22 tracks that features three mammoth hits - this album is guaranteed of being a success. The good news, it deserves to be  - this is one brilliant piece of pop.

Wow there a lot of albums coming out right now, we'll be reviewing three this week. So it takes a pretty good album to stand out in the crowd, Ellie Goulding certainly does that with album number three, "Delirium". While her previous two albums have been great, "Delirium" is definitely her strongest album to date.

There is a simple fact to remember, Ellie Goulding has an amazing voice that is super distinctive and highly recognisable. She has quickly become her own brand and there's a reason she seems highly in demand for dance producers, her great collaboration with Calvin Harris is featured here, but not her most recent collab with Major Lazer. No matter the genre she is visiting, those amazing pipes shine through.

Speaking of genre, Ellie has experimented a lot, but this time we see her place herself firmly in the category of pop. This album is unapologetically pop and that's a good thing. The album is bold, the sounds are big and the production is so sharp it could cut. The album may be long, but I would find it hard to cut a number, each song is not only entertaining, it helps fit into the pieces that is the "Delirium" jigsaw.

Mega, mega hit "Love Me Like You Do" is here, a non pop fan friend told me the other day that they couldn't help but love that song, it is damn catchy. Max Martin produced single, "On My Mind" is here too. This single perfectly proves that Goulding is going for the pop crown and succeeds in producing a catchy tune that is a sure fire pop hit. When she sings, "I got you on my mind", you get it stuck in yours.

The three promo singles released just before the album are all great. "Something In the Way You Move" is perfection, with a little of her old sound thrown with her pop sensibilities and we have a song I have had on repeat for weeks. "Lost and Found" is another strong track that is catchy but it is "Army" that is my favourite, in fact it is my favourite song on the album. This is such a beautiful love song with a very solid beat. Lyrically it gets to the heart and is a perfect anthem.

It's hard to pull out other songs to highlight as the whole album is so good. But I'd definitely say that "Codes" is exceptional, as is "Don't Panic". The tracks from the deluxe edition, that make up the 22, are also awesome. Both "I Do What I Love" and "The Greatest" are some of my favourites on the album.

Ellie Goulding is an artist that you can't ignore. The "Delirium" album is sublimely good and it proves that Ms Goulding will be around for a very long time. Highly recommended!
