Ariana Grande is back with a fierce new single and an album on the way. While "Focus" may not have the immediate appeal of "Problem" and "Break Free", after several listens it gets stuck in your head and I felt no other option than to make it single of the week.
Ballsy and big, "Focus" grabs your attention and while the male spoken word chorus may have a similar structure to "Problem", this is still a great pop song. Slickly produced by Ilya and Max Martin, this has a very current sound and is the right amount of addictive.
Ariana really does have such a special voice, she's an upcoming diva who's proving she is here to stick around. Even when Ariana isn't belting out the big notes, you can still hear the power in her voice, like you could with Mariah in the early days. Her voice is only going to get bigger as the years go on, and I am very excited for the upcoming album.
Ariana has produced an amazing array of releases so far, "The Way", "Love Me Harder" and "One Last Time" add to the list of songs already mentioned. While "Focus" may not be one of her best tunes, it is a solid single with a great beat, awesome horns and features a pop diva with an incredible voice.
I know I'll be listening to this a lot until the album comes out, plus let's hope for her ghost to make another appearance on "Scream Queens"!
