Album Review: Get Weird - Little Mix

There's a reason why many consider Little Mix the number one girl group in the world. they are seriously talented young women. With the release of their third album, "Get Weird", they look ready to maintain their crown.

Big, brash and addictive, Little Mix's brand of pop is in your face - and that's just the way I like it! Often tongue in cheek, and a little naughty, you just have to love the girls. Their tracks are often clever and fun, and then suddenly they rock out a great ballad, keeping us on our toes. All four have incredible voices, and together they sound brilliant, their harmonises are top notch.

As an album, "Get Weird" is a great blend of 80s pop and 50s/60s girl group sensibilities. Moving away from the 90s R&B sound of the last album, "Salute", the girls move more towards a polished pop sound. The result is eclectic, fascinating and highly entertaining, this is a great album that is incredibly easy to listen to.

First single, "Black Magic" is just as good as when it was released. A full 80s synth sound, some big vocals and fun lyrics make this a deserved hit. Single number two, "Love Me Like You" is a song I have been going crazy over lately. With that girl group sound of old, the harmonises are beautiful, and though it's sad pop, the tune is so infectious that it brings me joy.

The rest of the tunes on the album are also amazing. I have two favourites, the first being the awesome "Lightning", a big song that is the most reminiscent of the single, "Salute". What a great sound this track is and deserves to be a future single. My other favourite, the Jason Derulo duet, "Secret Love Song". This is a stunning ballad with beautiful instrumentation and some amazing vocals from the ladies and from Jason. The lyrics are so beautiful, "Why can't you hold me in the streets?". The stripped down Part 2, with just the girls, is even more beautiful, and wonderfully is rumoured to be dedicated to their LGBTQI fans.

There isn't a bad song on the album, "A.D.I.D.A.S", otherwise known as "All Day I Dream About Sssh" is clever with a funky beat. "I Love You" is a powerful ballad with heartbreaking lyrics, "I just want to scream out till my voice breaks". "Grown" is big and brash and both "The End" and "The Beginning" are simply stunning.

There are so many great albums out this month and this is another to add to the list. Little Mix aren't just some reality TV show competitors, they are fierce pop stars with a brilliant album that is only going to get better and better with more listens.
