Top 5 Songs: Britney Spears

Time to celebrate a legend. Britney Spears has been one of the world's biggest stars since 1998, she has produced some amazing pop that has really become a pop culture phenomenon. Time she was honoured with a Top 5 list.

Selling over 100 million albums worldwide, most people will have at least one Britney album. Me? I have them all. With a knack for making extraordinary film clips and a beacon for controversy, Britney is one of the more fascinating pop stars.

Selecting just five songs was almost impossible. So many amazing songs had to miss out. Tracks like, "Sometimes", "Stronger", "Circus" and "Boys" just missed out making the list. The same for brilliant later tracks like, "Hold It Against Me", "Criminal" and "Perfume". And I almost hate myself for not including the brilliant, "Piece of Me". Just so many great Britney songs.

Have a look at the list and then tell me in the comments section below which Britney songs you would include in the list.

5 - If U Seek Amy

The top four in this countdown were pretty obvious, but there were so many songs that could have taken this fifth spot. I chose "If U Seek Amy" because quite simply, when it comes on I smile. It is such an infectious song, an electro pop gem that has a thick beat that is great to dance along with. Britney's voice is so playful and sexy and those lyrics pretty great, is it about sex or fame? Or maybe both? This is one that gives me joy.

4 - Oops ... I Did It Again

Britney's first album was great, but it was on album two when everything really came together and the potential was fully realised. Here was this amazing pop star who demanded your attention. This was best demonstrated with first single and title track, "Oops... I Did It Again". This is pop at its best, a brilliant beat, some catchy lyrics, slick production and a film clip that made Britney a leader in the genre. You would have thought with a title like it has, this song would have aged more - it hasn't. It's still as great today.

3 - I'm a Slave 4 U

And suddenly the girl next door was all grown up and on the stripper pole! For album number three, Britney went urban for the first single with the help of The Neptunes, and the result was amazing. The best is so great on this song, and it's a damn sexy song. Britney sounds great with her purring and I think we all love singing along with the "Kitty-Cat, Kitty-Cat" part. This song was proof that Britney was not one note and could cross genre with an ease, and sexiness!

2 - Everytime

One of the most amazing things about this stunning ballad is that Britney co-wrote this song. Rumours were that she wrote it as a response to Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River". The lyrics are so good and really do break your heart. The music is haunting and the vocals are vulnerable, it is Britney's best ballad and was a well deserved number one here in Australia. What a stunning song!

1 - Me Against The Music (featuring Madonna)

When two powerhouses of pop, the Queen and the Princess, come together, you just know it's going to be special. Britney played the track for Madonna when they were rehearsing for their now infamous MTV award appearance, and Madonna agreed to join the track. It is so beautifully fast paced, the beat is fantastic and infectious. The two sound great together, and they battle it out in such a friendly and fun manner. Madonna is my favourite artist, so her teaming up with Britney was a literal dream come true. A. Brilliant. Song.
