Let Us Grieve - an opinion piece

Well today was another bad one for celebrity deaths, the ridiculously talented Debbie Reynolds died only a day after her daughter, Carrie Fisher. Many turn to social media to share memories, feelings and sorrow. Then there's the other social media users, the ones who seem to be telling us that we are not entitled to our grief.

EP Review: Belong - Pia Toscano

Welcome back Pia Toscano, it's been way too long. Pia has one of those truly unique voices, strong and powerful but also with lovely, beautiful soft tones. How she is not a mega star is beyond me! Pia's new EP, "Belong" is quite simply perfect - in so many ways!

Remembering George Michael

So it's only been a short time since the news broke that George Michael died, on Christmas Day. It seems a cruel joke, and I'm still hoping it is. Cause this year we lost some dead set legends. For me personally, the two men that I list as my favourite male vocalists have both passed - Prince and George Michael. My heart is so heavy, but they have to live on through their music and that is what we have to celebrate.

EP Review: Miss You - Gabrielle Aplin

It seems EP's are back "in vogue". It seems like a great way of getting out new music as albums aren't selling as well. And I love listening to an EP, it always leaves you wanting more. And that's exactly how I feel about the new EP from the very talented Gabrielle Aplin. "Miss You" is certainly short, sharp and special,

Album Review: Glory Days - Little Mix

Album number four for the uber talented ladies of Little Mix and it may just be their best album yet. "Glory Days" is a joyous celebration of pop and really does see the ladies firing on all cylinders.

Album Review: DNCE- DNCE

It seems that DNCE's debut album, "DNCE" has been a long time coming. We've had a great EP and their debut single, "Cake By the Ocean" has had a massive year. So it's great we finally have an album, and it is as wonderful as we could have hoped.

Album Review: 24 HRS - Olly Murs

Can you believe Olly Murs is already up to album number five? And over those albums, Olly has managed to create his own sound and brand. It's great to see him settle into his musical skin and produce a solid and confident album of great pop.

Album Review: Long Live the Angels - Emeli Sande

There's something uniquely special about Emeli Sande. Like many I have been impatiently waiting for her sophomore album, and the good news - it was worth the wait. "Long Live the Angels" is a beautiful piece of art.

Album Review: Unfinished Business - Nathan Sykes

Other genres come and go, but pop will always be on top. You just can't go past a good pop album and the UK pop sound really is supreme. So it is with great joy that I say that Nathan Sykes's debut album, "Unfinished Business" is truly one of the best pop albums of the year.

Thursday, 17 November 2016

Album Review: HERE - Alicia Keys

"HERE" is the 6th studio album by one of the world's best vocalists, the astonishing Alicia Keys. And yet again, she has made an album of beautifully powerful R&B / pop that shows she isn't going anywhere for a long time.

In front of a sell out crowd at the iconic Enmore Theatre in Sydney last night, TLC brought the house down performing all of their massive hits. And they were truly amazing!

Album Review: Lady Wood - Tove Lo

Tove Lo is a pretty fascinating pop star, the more I hear from her - the more I like her. So listening to her new album, "Lady Wood", I have grown a new respect for a very, very talented pop star who just keeps getting better.

Monday, 14 November 2016

Album Review: Joanne - Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga's latest effort could very well be the most talked about album of the year, and probably one of the most divisive. People love it, people hate it, people aren't sure - all we know for sure, people talk a lot of shit on line - probably me included. So is the album any good? Good yes, great, almost.

Saturday, 12 November 2016

Album Review: Version Of Me - Melanie C

We all loved the Spice Girls; and let's be honest, if you didn't, there must be something wrong with you. We also always knew that Melanie C was the strongest vocalist. And now, 20 years after the release of "Wannabe" (um, what?), it is clear that Melanie C has had the best solo career. Even more reason to be excited, her new album, "Version of Me" may just be her best album yet!

Album Review: Mad Love. - JoJo

JoJo hit it big in 2004 with the hit, "Leave (Get Out)", a few other singles were released that did well, but then she faded. Most had forgotten her, so what a great surprise that her comeback album, "Mad Love" isn't just any normal album, quite simply, it is brilliant.

Live Review: Kim Wilde & Howard Jones - Rooty Hill RSL 5.11.16

Last night Kim Wilde and Howard Jones played the Rooty Hill RSL in Sydney's west and they were amazing. At Internal Jukebox we've seen a lot of shows this year, but this one ranks right up there. Album Review: Superwoman - Rebecca Ferguson

We often talk about our love for Rebecca Ferguson here at Internal Jukebox. She has one of those truly unique voices that can't be found often. So we were pretty excited when we heard she was releasing a new album of originals - and we were not disappointed. "Superwoman" is a powerful album filled with great tunes from one of the world's best vocalists.

Album Review: The Secret Daughter - Jessica Mauboy

We often joke that Nollsy was robbed when he lost to Guy Sebastian on Season One of Australian Idol - but both gentleman went on to have great careers. Year two saw the two finalists, Casey Donovan and Anthony Callea go on to work consistently. It is such a shame that the best contestants seem to battle each other in one year. Jessica Mauboy could have won any year of Australian Idol, but lost to strong competitor, Damian Leith. Though if you want to argue who was ripped off the most when they lost, I would argue it was certainly Jessica Mauboy - this talented lady has had one helluva career and this past week became the first indigenous artist to go to number one on the Australian album charts. A well deserved accolade. It could easily be argued that she is the most successful of the Australian Idol alumni.

Album Review: Following My Intuition - Craig David

Late 90s, early 00s pop is back in a big way, so it seemed the perfect time for a Craig David comeback, and unlike many of his contemporaries who are satisfied with retro tours, Mr David has released some new music. The good news, the album is pretty damn good and ranks up there as one of his strongest.

Saturday, 15 October 2016

Album Review: The Altar - Banks

Sometimes an artist releases a new album and it just hits you straight in the face, it was exactly the new piece of music you were looking for. Right now, that album for me is Banks's brilliant new opus, "The Altar".

Wednesday, 5 October 2016

Monday, 3 October 2016

Album Review: Illuminate - Shawn Mendes

At 18 it is no surprise that Shawn Mendes is growing as an artist. While, "Handwritten" was a great album, it is with "Illuminate" that he has truly found something very special.

Album Review: Emotion Side B - Carly Rae Jepsen

Hearing that an artist has released an album of the songs that didn't make their last album may not seem like the best idea, but trust me, Carly Rae Jepsen's Side B is all kinds of brilliant.

EP Review: Ain't No Little Girl - Kasey Chambers

Kasey Chambers is back and she is sounding better than ever with the release of her new EP, "Ain't No Little Girl", a precursor to her upcoming album, "Dragonfly". The whole EP is classic Kasey, emotional, energetic and always entertaining.

Tuesday, 23 August 2016

Album Review: Covers - Conor Maynard

Now Conor Maynard, though still quite young, has been producing great music for years; and he's also been known to bust out a great cover. Well he's decided to give us a whole album of covers featuring very new songs, and the result is pretty damn impressive.

10 Artists We'd Love To See Tour Australia

Here at Internal Jukebox we've declared it the year of the concert. We love going to gigs, but for many reasons, work, money, etc, we just haven't seen as many as we'd like in the past. So this year we decided to change that and have gone to so many great shows, Little Mix, Belinda Carlisle, Brandy, The Falling Joys, Clare Bowen, Totally 80s and Madonna, twice. We have quite a few still to come this year, but there's a growing list of the great pop acts we'd love to see tour Australia. If you're reading this, please come, we'd love to see you here!

Some line ups are a bit of a dream, that was the case on Saturday night as "Totally 80s" literally exploded onto the stage at the brilliant Enmore Theatre. Tuesday, 12 July 2016

Album Review: FMA - Grace

Last year Grace teamed up with G-Eazy to top the charts worldwide with their cover of Lesley Gore's iconic, "You Don't Own Me". It was a great cover and a deserved hit, it's always special when an Aussie artist tops the charts. I was a fan and liked Grace, but now hearing her original material, you can move me in to the column of love. Grace is one talented woman and "FMA" is one helluva debut album.

Saturday, 9 July 2016

It must be increasingly frustrating for those people who love to bag out Delta. She continues to have big success, her new album, "Wings of the Wild", currently sits atop the Australian album charts. Here's something else for you haters, Delta's album is a truly great pop album, so sit down, we don't want to hear your shit anymore!

Live Review: The Falling Joys & The Hummingbirds @ Newtown Social Club

That fat gay kid who always felt an outsider until he graduated from Doonside High in 1992 was in heaven this past Sunday when some of his favourite High School bands reformed for a magical afternoon of entertainment.
