Album Review: Piece by Piece - Kelly Clarkson

Welcome back Ms Clarkson, we've missed you! Now I have been a massive KC fan since the very beginning, this woman knows how to sing and she proves it once more with her first new, non-Christmas studio album in 4 years. This a very strong album from one of the best vocalists in music today!

Now the one thing you can always rely on with a Kelly Clarkson album, is that it's going to sound exactly like a Kelly Clarkson album. She has a distinct style that is hard to fault. While stupid idiots on the internet discuss Kelly's weight, they ignore that she is one of the best vocalists in the world. There's a reason she won the original season of American Idol, why she's been so successful and why she's remained relevant for 13 years.

Let's talk about the amazing album, and it is amazing. A new Kelly Clarkson album is always exciting, I end up playing them on repeat for ages, the whole album, not just the singles. This is a beautifully complete album filled with pop rock gems and truly exquisite ballads designed to showcase Ms Clarkson's stirling vocals.

There is quite a lot to highlight here. First single, "Heartbeat Song" is a classic Kelly Clarkson song, powerful pop rock that's easy to sing along with. What a shame that it's only been a big hit in the UK. But in all honesty, I believe the second track, "Invincible" should have been the first single. This Sia co-written song is something special. This is a true Kelly Clarkson anthem with powerhouse vocals and a great driving beat, plus that massive build to the pause before the end is brilliant.

Another highlight certainly has to be the beautiful duet with John Legend, "Run, Run, Run". The track is hypnotic and stunning, great production with striking vocals from both performers. Together they sound perfect.

Other highlights for me include, "Let the Tears Fall", another Sia co-write (do love me some Sia co-writes), "War Paint" with it's catchy beat and lyrics, "We could be beautiful without our war paint". "Nostalgic" is very Kelly and I love it. Plus, "Bad Reputation", is a great track with a driving beat. Why is this only a bonus track, it could easily be a single?

Truth be told, there's not a single bad track on the album, all of them have their own special moments. Did Kelly reinvent herself for this album? No, but she didn't need to. She has her own lane, and I applaud her for making such a great album that highlights the best part of her - her truly incredible voice. Get this album guys, it will be one you'll revisit a lot! Now come back to Australia Kelly, we want another tour!!
